I will review the properties of probably the simplest system where only two states are available for polariton condensation to occur. This includes a trapped polariton condensate with spin (polarization) degree of freedom or two polariton condensates separated by the barrier. Polariton condensation in this system generally results in the parity symmetry breaking [1], leading also to regular oscillations, or time-crystals [2], and chaos [3]. This system allows establishing quasi-conservative dynamics with continuous set of closed trajectories in the parity-time symmetric regime, that remain unbroken in the presence of polariton repulsion even at high levels of dissipation imbalance [4]. The quantum theory of polariton dimer [5] demonstrates the coexistence of a symmetry-conserving and symmetry-broken condensates in the vicinity of the threshold, where spontaneous symmetry breaking is reflected in the second-order cross correlator with possibility of the sub-Poissonian polariton statistics.

Yuri Rubo is a Mexican physicist of Ukrainian origin. He is Titular Researcher and Professor at the Institute of Renewable Energies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He received Ph.D. in physics in 1989 from V. E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. After postdoctoral studies at Groupe d’Edude des Semiconducteurs, Université Montpellier II in 1993-1994, and visiting appointments in Royal Holloway University of London in 1996 and Michigan State University in 1996-1997, he moved to Mexico in 1997. For sabbatical leaves, Yuri was Senior Research Fellow at University of Southampton (UK, 2007-2008) and Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre of Theoretical Physics of Complex Systems, Institute for Basic Science (South Korea, 2017-2018). The main research interests of Dr. Rubo are in the condensed matter physics, optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures, and strong light-matter coupling. In recent years he has been working on the theory of exciton-polariton condensation, including formation of vorticity, spontaneous currents, symmetry breaking in polariton lasers, and quantum properties of polariton condensates.
